These delicious pan-fried basa fillets are so simple and quick to make. They’re made with just a few ingredients and seasoned with a couple spices like turmeric and paprika. The basa fillets get fried in butter in a pan and they only take a few minutes to cook.

Basa is a great fish as it is more affordable than most other kinds of fish. It is also quite healthy due to its low calories, high protein content, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Basa, like other white fish, has a very mild flavour and light texture. It makes a great easy dinner that you can easily pair with any sides of your choice. Of course, you can opt for the more classic option of fries (aka chips). For healthier sides, you may wish to just have some simple vegetables like peas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, asparagus, or whatever you like. Personally, I love having white fish like basa with fries or a potato dish, peas, and coleslaw.
What do I need to make pan-fried basa fillets?
- Basa fillets — Make sure you thaw the fillets first, if using frozen fish.
- Butter — You can use any cooking oil instead.
- Turmeric powder
- Paprika
- Garlic powder
- Salt
- Pepper
How to make pan-fried basa fillets:
1. Pat dry the basa fillets with some paper towels.
2. In a small (shallow) bowl, combine the seasonings (turmeric, paprika, garlic, salt, and pepper) together. Put the basa fillets in the seasonings mixture (or sprinkle it on top), coating both sides evenly.
3. Melt the butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
4. Carefully place the fillets into the pan. Cook for about 2-4 minutes per side. (Make sure the fish is fully cooked through. The fillets should be opaque and flake easily with a fork).
5. Serve with desired sides.
Notes:
- You can adjust the seasonings, (especially salt and pepper), based on personal preference.
